Emotional Bodywork & In-person Therapy

Online therapy is proven effective, but the emotional experience is very different from in-person sessions. Online therapy limits therapists’ access to unspoken feelings, visual cues, and tactile experiences. In-person benefits include access to nonverbal communication and a more intimate personal relationship.

The goal of Psychotherapy and Emotional Bodywork is to assist clients in attaining and sustaining positive change in their lives. This combination of work recognizes that there is no separation between the emotional and the physical body. What happens in one domain influences and affects what happens in the other. By becoming aware of this interrelationship, psychotherapy & emotional bodywork guides the client to make positive changes in their lives through shifts in somatic, cognitive, and emotional patterns.

During a psychotherapeutic session, both the therapist and the client are in constant non-verbal communication about how each other lives in their body. How one walks, sits, talks, or makes eye contact. When a therapist and client meet in-person, feelings flow between them. Understanding these unspoken feelings aids the therapist in understanding the client’s inner emotional life. The client in turn, can feel empathy from the therapist via both verbal and non-verbal communication. On-line therapy can limit access to this all-important physical embodiment of feelings. (Grover S., 2023, Psychology Today - The Three Essential Benefits of In-person vs. Online Therapy)

True and lasting transformation over time takes place in the whole body and requires full access to both verbal and non-verbal communication. My preferred delivery of service for the success of psychotherapy and emotional bodywork is in-person therapy.
